Employment and Education Programs

The Employment & Education Program includes but is not limited to the following services: childcare working parents, tuition assistance, youth leadership, on the job training and school uniforms/fees.

Orientation for Getting Ahead Icon Orientation for Getting Ahead

Dates: December 2021 / Registration begins in November

Details:

  • Virtual group workshop to develop plans to become economically independent
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Must have high school diploma or GED

Summer Youth Works! Icon Summer Youth Works!

Dates: Registration February until April 30th

Details:

Seasonal employment for college bound high school 10-12th graders and students enrolled in accredited colleges or certification programs.

Childcare in Support of Work Icon Childcare in Support of Work

Dates: February until funds are exhausted

Details:

  • Assist with job start up or to make family current with day care in support of work
  • Parent must be employed or starting a new job (documentation required)
  • Child care may before or after school, a learning pod, summer camp, an in-home daycare or child care center
  • Child care provider must be registered with DSS

Eligibility documents needed:

  • State issued ID
  • Proof of household income from the past 30 days
  • If household income is not from employment, a letter or email of hire is required
  • Statement from childcare provider stating child’s name and the date they can start, or Invoice from a current childcare provider
  • If the balance is more than $600, a statement from the childcare provider that they will work with the household on a payment plan and allow the child to continue to attend the facility
  • Completed Palmetto CAP registration documents

On-the-Job Training (OJT) Icon On-the-Job Training (OJT)

Dates: February until funds are exhausted

Details:

  • Provides paid work experience to the unemployed and underemployed to increase employment skills

Eligibility documents needed:

  • Resume
  • State issued ID
  • Proof of household income from the past thirty days
  • Completed Palmetto CAP registration documents

Tuition Assistance Icon Tuition Assistance

Dates: February until funds are exhausted

Details:

  • Accredited college and Trident Technical College students only
  • Assistance with tuition, college fees and licensure exam fees

Eligibility documents needed:

  • State ID
  • If 18 or older, a state ID; if 17 or younger, a school ID
  • Proof of household Income for the past thirty days.
  • Statement from school showing current balance. Complete printout with student’s name, school ID and breakdown of bill, FASFA and other awards
  • If needed, proof of payment plan arrangement and history of payments
  • Current class schedule
  • Completed Palmetto CAP registration documents

School Fees and Uniforms Icon School Fees and Uniforms

Dates: July 15 until funds are exhausted

Details:

  • School fees or uniforms up to $150 per child
  • Max 2 children per household

Eligibility documents needed:

  • State issued ID
  • Proof of household income from the past thirty days
  • Letter from the school regarding school fees or uniform policy
  • Completed Palmetto CAP registration documents

Summer Camp Icon Summer Camp

Dates: Camp site to be announced in April
Registration starts May

Details:

  • Free summer camp for children in elementary school. Age restrictions apply.
  • Includes summer learning activities, physical activities and field trips.

Eligibility Documents needed:

  • Details will be announced prior to registration.

Palmetto CAP’s General Emergency Assistance Program (or GEAP) provides financial assistance to households who have encountered an unexpected financial hardship including rental assistance to avoid eviction. Assistance is provided once every 24 months.
