Nearly 50 years ago, Palmetto Community Action Partnership began providing self-sufficiency services to economically-disadvantaged citizens of the Lowcountry with the belief that everyone deserves the right to access economic opportunity. Today, Palmetto CAP continues to provide basic needs assistance and self-empowerment programming while giving voice to people living in poverty.

Join us at the inaugural Community Action Leadership Luncheon to celebrate the legacy of the founders of this organization and the acknowledgment of other individuals and organizations that are helping to fight the War On Poverty. In addition to a dynamic keynote address on how businesses can partner with the community to fight poverty, the recipient of the first ever McFarland-Tecklenburg-Washington Human Service Award will be presented.

THE HONOREES

Honorees

At the luncheon, we will honor of some of Palmetto CAP’s pioneering founders: Judge Arthur C. McFarland; Mayor John J. Tecklenburg; and Reverend McKinley Washington, Jr. These men are responsible for bringing programs to the Charleston community decades ago that continue to fight poverty to this day. The McFarland-Tecklenburg-Washington Human Service Award has been created in their honor and will be given annually to an individual or company that's working to rid poverty from the community.
