BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Since 1968, local Community Action Agencies have been required to have tripartite governing boards to gain and retain designation as eligible entities and to receive CSBG funding. Effective tripartite boards reflect and promote the unique anti-poverty leadership, action, and mobilization responsibilities assigned by law to CAAs. Boards are responsible for assuring that agencies continue to assess and respond to the causes and conditions of poverty in their community, achieve anticipated family and community outcomes, and remain administratively and fiscally sound.

The Palmetto CAP Board of Directors is made of 1/3 publicly-elected officials, 1/3 private business representatives and 1/3 members of the economically disadvantaged community (who are elected by a democratic process).  Board members also represent the three counties Palmetto CAP serves.

2017 Board Elections

 

We will hold elections for three seats on our Board of Directors for representatives who either are, serve or advocate for economically disadvantaged residents.  Representatives are needed for both Berkeley and Charleston Counties.

 

The election for the Berkeley County representative will be held Monday, May 15th at 6:00pm at the Berkeley County Public Library’s Goose Creek branch (located at 325 Old Moncks Corner Road, Goose Creek).  The election for the two Charleston County representative seats will be held Tuesday, May 16th at 6:00pm at the Charleston County Public Library’s John’s Island branch (located at 3531 Maybank Highway, John’s Island, SC) .

 

The Palmetto CAP Board of Directors meets every other month (on the third Wednesday at 11am) at 1069 King Street in Charleston. The remaining 2017 meeting dates are listed below:
